The MAP English tests (Measures of Academic Progress) are tools many schools use to understand how students are doing in reading and language skills. These tests are aimed at helping teachers see a child's level and improvement. They’re given to students from kindergarten through high school.

An English MAP test is divided into two: MAP Reading and MAP Language Usage. The reading test checks how well students understand stories and informational texts, how they figure out the meaning of new words, and how they recognize key ideas in what they read.

The language usage test looks more at writing skills, like grammar, punctuation, and how clearly and effectively students can organize their ideas.

학생이 문제를 맞히면 난이도가 높아지고, 틀리면 난이도가 낮아지는 방식으로, 학생의 정확한 학업 능력을 측정하는 데 효과적입니다.

주로 국제학교 입학 시험뿐 아니라, 학기 중 학습 진단 목적으로도 활용됩니다.

 

​MAP tests are computer-adaptive, which means they adjust to each student’s answers. If a student answers a question correctly, the next question will be a little harder. On the contrary, if they get a question wrong, the next one will be easier. This helps the test find the right level for each child.

Another important point is that MAP tests are not timed, so students can take the time they need to do their best. Also, instead of getting a letter grade or a percentage, students receive an RIT score.

This score shows their current achievement level and helps track their growth. It does not compare them directly to other kids in their grade but shows how their skills are developing.

Here’s what the tests cover:

• Understanding arguments and evidence in nonfiction
• Vocabulary and word meaning

Most schools have the MAP tests two or three times a year. This helps teachers see progress and make decisions about how to best support each child.
