​When taking a proficiency English test, students should aim to achieve the highest score possible in the reading exam. Reading usually requires less energy and concentration compared to other exams, so it's important to maximize your performance in this area.

However, students should not underestimate its difficulty. Misplacing an answer or misinterpreting a question is more common than someone might think, and losing points due to low concentration is always disappointing.

There are useful tips a student can follow to ensure the best reading score in their abilities.

The most obvious yet most important advice is to read the passages carefully. You should avoid wasting time rereading the paragraph because you did not understand it the first time. Do not rush through the text, and be sure to comprehend what you are reading, but be careful not to spend too much time on one section.

While reading, highlight keywords and underline meaningful sentences. This is an excellent method for individuating information faster in the passage when answering questions.

When you have difficulty understanding a particularly complex passage, do not try to understand all the words but concentrate on the general meaning. You might not be able to answer all the questions correctly, but this method will help you save time and get as many correct answers as possible.
